# AI tools overview

> Formswrite's AI-powered tools for generating quizzes, lesson plans, worksheets, and rubrics

Formswrite provides a suite of AI-powered tools designed for educators. Each tool uses AI to generate high-quality educational content that you can customize and export.

## Fred AI — your AI teaching assistant

All AI tools are powered by **Fred AI**, Formswrite's built-in AI assistant. You can access Fred AI in two ways:

1. **Individual tool pages** — Use the dedicated tool interface in your dashboard (under **Tools** in the sidebar)
2. **Fred AI Chat** — Have a conversation with Fred AI to generate any type of content. Access it from the sidebar under **Fred AI**

### Chat interface

The Fred AI chat interface supports:

* **Multi-turn conversations** — refine your content through back-and-forth dialogue
* **File attachments** — upload a document and ask Fred to generate a quiz from it
* **Topic-based generation** — just describe what you need and Fred will create it
* **Multiple output types** — generate quizzes, lesson plans, worksheets, or rubrics from a single conversation

## Common settings across all tools

Every AI tool shares these configuration options:

| **Grade level**   | Pre-K through College | Adjusts complexity and vocabulary to match student level       |
| **Language**      | 12+ languages         | Generate content in English, Spanish, French, German, and more |

## How AI generation works

1. You provide a topic, document, or set of requirements
2. Formswrite sends your input to the AI model for processing
3. The AI generates structured content (questions, plans, activities)
4. Content is validated for quality and completeness
5. You review, edit, and customize the output
6. Export to your preferred platform or format
